Fire Damage ✪ Restoration

BioBlast has extensive experience with restoration of log structures that have suffered from fire damage. Sandblasting is the only way to remove the black charcoal that left in the wake of a fire event. Our media blasting technique is essential for salvaging homes and minimizing the need to replace priceless logs that often can’t be replaced with comparable new timbers.

RESTORING AN ICON ✪ GRACIE’S DINER

Bio Blast took on the ultimate coatings removal job of blasting a piece of iconic pop culture history, the Old North Fork Store located on Highway 75 in Idaho north of Ketchum. In 1956 it was rebranded, Grace’s Diner, for the romantic comedy feature film, Bus Stop, staring Marilyn Monroe & Don Murray. The building was relocated in 2019 to a private residence and the cabin exterior has been blasted as part of a complete restoration. Projects like this are just part of why Bio Blast is Beyond Blasting!

Longevity

Applying new product as a remedy for failed finishes only works for so long. Eventually a full restoration is required. In most cases media blasting is the only way to completely restore the surface of your log home and set the stage for a long lasting finish. Because all absorption restricting factors have been eliminated, oils and finishes are able to penetrate and work properly. No other restoration methods compare.

Home Interiors

Dated, failing and yellowing finishes no longer need to be painted or ignored in your next home remodel. BioBlast is fully equip with a particulate extraction system that enables us to capture and minimize airborne dust particles from the air while we are removing coatings. This powerful tool makes it possible for us to blast interior wood ceilings and architectural beams to restore them to their natural state.

Restoration

Our business has been focused on exterior log and wood home restoration for over 20 years now. In that time we have used a variety of methods and discovered that proper log home restoration starts with complete removal of old coatings to fully prepare the surface for a new finish. Our experience has proven that media blasting log home exteriors is a more cost effective restoration method in the long run than sanding and using chemical strippers which makes blasting the ideal tool for the job.

Method

Sandblasting is the singular method for coatings removal, wood surface preparation and longterm log home maintenance. By removing all all of the layers of old finishes and UV damage, we expose the natural beauty of the logs that has been hidden. Removing these barriers opens the wood to deeply receive and absorb a brand new finish. Because all absorption restricting factors have been eliminated, oils and finishes are able to penetrate the wood, work as prescribed and last.

Maintenance

Once the exterior coatings on your log home have been removed, the surface is ready to be resealed. In our experience nothing is going to make this initial finish last longer than if it is blasted and the oil finish is brushed on by hand. In most cases blasting removes all the absorption barriers from the logs and prepares them to be open to receiving the ultimate finish. The more product that the logs are able to absorb, the longer your finishes will last in the future. BioBlasted and hand brushed homes typically absorb almost twice the amount of finishing oil than homes restored with other abrasive and chemical processes. In fact paint and stain manufacturers only warranty their products when the surface has been properly prepared to absorb their finishes.

Sustainability

We have sourced reclaimed and agricultural media, some of which are manufactured here in Idaho. By combining bio neutral media with our advanced equipment and experience, we are able to minimize surface loss, environmental impact and cleanup. This minimal media approach, while simple and efficient is also EPA approved for use in outdoor areas unlike silica based sand blasting. The BioBlast method of restoration maintains the safety you expect to have at home by using benign materials that will not harm the health of humans, pets or gardens.
